In the summer of 1989, I started my journey as a young 19-year-old missionary for the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints in Scotland for two years.
It was a big wake up call for a young man who had never been out of the country and then having to share his religious beliefs with complete strangers, cultures and other religions.
Some days it was could be very discouraging when doors were being slammed in your face, walking in the cold and rainy weather, or even being chased off by Church Of Scotland Ministers.
But no matter how discouraging it got, our mission motto "What e’er thou art, act well thy part" kept me going. So as a missionary, it was my duty to do my very best, act the very best and keep on going no matter what.
I think as a business owner, leader, father or whatever position or job we have, that we should strive to "act well our parts" and that whatever we do is important and that we do our very best at it.
“If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as a Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, ‘Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.’” – Martin Luther King, Jr.
